56 years since the Kennedy assassination and many still see confusion and conspiracy in a clear cut case. Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone gunman. His presence at the Book Depository was established by eyewitness and fingerprint evidence. (Thread) #jfk56 #JFKAssassination
Oswald was the only shooter people saw. Bullets from his gun were the only ones found at the crime scene. Oswald’s shots that day were easily replicated by a three member team working for the Warren Commission and an 11 person team commissioned by CBS News in 1967.
Oswald had 8.4 seconds to fire three shots. The average time needed in the ‘67 re-enactment was 5.6. As a Marine marksman, Oswald had a 91% accuracy rate for rapid fire at 200 yards. The president was only 88 yards from Oswald during the final shot.
Oswald had a 67% accuracy rate that day. Put another way, Oswald’s performance was well below his own demonstrated capability.
Aside from the myth that this would have been an impossible or even difficult shot, the “magic bullet theory” is probably most responsible for the perseverance of conspiracy theories. But that’s even easier to dispel.
The “magic bullet theory” starts with a false assumption that Governor Connally and the president were seated directly opposite one another. But they weren’t. Connally was in a jump seat a half foot from the door.
Far from being magic, the bullet traveled a straight line, wounding the president and Connally. Moreover, if the bullet that wounded Kennedy didn’t strike Connally, where did it go? It didn’t hit anyone else in the vehicle and was never found, in the car or at the scene.
