Why is there an obsession with the US and possession based soccer at the highest level including international?

This is not the focus that US soccer should have right now.
Does this obsession exist in other countries?
At the youth level, possession (positional play) of the ball teaches technical and tactical skill. Possession based, at the youth level, is probably the best way to play to learn.
At the international level, should a style of play override winning?

Should the US prioritize a possession based style of play?
Or
Should the US prioritize winning?
Club soccer and international soccer are completely different beasts.

However, the club soccer of a country *can* often dictate how the international team will perform. (There are exceptions.)
Why prioritize possession the way the US media and Berhalter have?

It is a strange and arrogant obsession that doesn't fit.

Possession based soccer, right now, is a round hole while American players being used are a square peg...
