As someone that read The Call of the Wild book, the trailer fills me with CONCERNS.

(THREAD AHEAD)

Aside from the off-putting CGI, the trailer does not set the tone that I would expect from the writings of a Jack London book.-
-While I know the original source material is gruelling and somewhat bleak, it is a reflection on the author and the times it was written in. Surely if you are going to make a movie on it, you capture its core themes? The original novel was BRUTAL and not suitable for kids...-
-Granted that it would not be a family friendly movie anymore but why not just make your own thing somewhat inspired rather than parading under another materials very differently themed name? Oh right, to cash in on ITS fame as a classic rather than risk something new.-
-Think about Disney's Oliver and Company, a take on the classic Oliver Twist: a novel that features abuse, neglect and murder. It drew a lot of comparisons but it changed everything from the species to the location and name, making it an easier transition for audiences to make -
-Perhaps it's just me, I'm certainly not going to sit here pretending I'm right when so many people agree with what Hollywood churns out now, but I would like to see films of old classics to capture the hardships of their times, even if means some scary/depressing moments.-
-Just seems that we won't allow kids to experience the odd negative emotion in a film anymore. I feel that seeing movies that had the guts to scare me at times let me learn how to deal with those emotions, and see that there is still a happy ending despite them.-
-To make my point clear: both Jack London's 'Call of the Wild' and 'White Fang' prominently features the brutality and unfairness of the wilderness and parallels it to the cruelty and corruption of man.-
-Both ended with its canine protagonist settling into its life having chosen either the relative security of man, or the freedom of the wild. From the trailer they look like they will forgo the horrific mistreatment of Buck in favour of turning it into an animal buddy flick-
-Yes I know no one wants to see an animal being harmed, but it was key to not only the novels main themes, but the development of Buck from housepet to wild animal. I'm not against modernisation, but the core emotions shouldn't be compromised. To me the trailer was tone deaf.-
In short, Call of the Wild should not be a family flick and deserves either a PG or '12' rating to properly tell it's story imho.

Sorry for the rant, and please @ me if you have your own thoughts, I'm all about having my mind changed on this. :)
