Honestly when I watched this live, I was unsure if Tulsi got the better of Pete here. I thought maybe she just barely clipped him, or vise versa.

Watched it again, and holy shit, she destroyed him.

Buttigieg also confirmed here that he is utterly unqualified for the WH. Thread. https://twitter.com/TulsiGabbard/status/1197375180387082240
2/ Let’s break down Pete’s response.

Tulsi is right. Pete confirmed he was willing to send troops to Mexico in a “security partnership role”. He insisted that Tulsi’s claim was untrue but dodged her question when he was pressed if he said this. https://twitter.com/latinorebels/status/1196873200682065925?s=21
3/ Here's what Pete doesn't divulge in his answer.

The cartels are a swamp of bribery, and the corruption infects nearly every level of the Mexican government. Prison guards, lawyers, border agents--and even the military itself--have routinely been found to be compromised.
4/ The US isn't better equipped than Mexico to deal with this systemic corruption. And even if we were, only Mexico itself should determine how to battle this corruption--without depending on the US to send our troops on a needless mission that could possibly get them killed.
5/ Here's what the US can do to actually counter this problem--legalize drugs (the jet fuel of the cartels), and crack down on firearms being trafficked to Mexico. Pete mentioned none of this on the debate stage.
6/ Pete then turned on Tulsi, asking her if she "was seriously asking if anyone was considering invading Mexico".

This, of course, was not at all what Tulsi was talking about.
7/ Pete either

1-Openly gaslit Gabbard and the audience, knowing full well that this wasn't what she was referring to

2-Believes that any form of US military intervention is so innocuous, it can't possibly be considered bad

3-Both
8/ Pete then jumped to Tulsi's meeting with Assad, claiming that she lacked judgement for meeting with a brutal dictator.

This is a ridiculous assertion. Obama, from a previous debate, breaks it down here. His response almost mirrors Tulsi's. https://twitter.com/NoMoreWars2/status/1197418496235192320
9/ Gabbard's meeting with Assad is rooted in her principle of diplomacy first--that we must talk to our adversaries--because war and intervention must be used as a very last resort.

Buttigieg either disagrees or lacks the capacity to understand this. https://twitter.com/_nalexander/status/1195101869896556544
