Of all people to invite in to your party to utterly destroy you and shred your reputations, this maniacally vain, impulsively lying, language garbling boor. A man who raided a charity for his personal gain. Who stole from veterans. 1/
Who created a fake university, defrauding thousands. Who betrays our allies, blithely leaving them to certain death, and cozies up to despots. Putin smiles, the West crumbles, Erdogan’s goons attack peaceful protesters on American soil with impunity, 2/
and blood not yet dry from slaughtering our Kurdish allies, takes a victory lap in our White House.

Look at this trash you’ve prostrated yourselves before, this tawdry, selfish, valueless, vapid garbage, surrounding himself with sycophants and evangelicals, 3/
pretending to be holy, demanding praise and flattery from his CABINET, in public meetings. Look at his casual cruelty, how he doesn’t just toss aside true, honorable patriots (and former allies) but spites them, calls them enemies, 4/
and encourages his followers to do the same, to the point where Lt. Col. Vindman has to move under the protection of the armed forces due to threats against himself and his family. Look at how this cruelty has infected policy, has infected our culture. 5/
Look at the facts in evidence, proven beyond any shadow of a doubt and pointedly not challenged by any of you: using the power of the office to extort a vulnerable ally nation for personal gain, specifically to inject more poisonous cancer into our electoral process; 6/
this is incontrovertible fact. Look at how he has corrupted the department of State to these galling ends.
What precedent does this set? Is it worth it? 7/
One would be forgiven for thinking that Trump was a Democrat plant, for how successful he’s been at untethering you from any ethical, moral or patriotic sense you ever had, how he’s rotted you like a flesh-eating disease from the inside out.

Look at him. 8/
And then look at yourselves. Look what you’re sacrificing yourselves, your honor and your legacies for. Look at this hill of venal idiocy you’re choosing to die on, and are now starry-eyed votes away from putting your tiki torches to the constitution, 9/
a document you’ve apparently neither understood nor appreciated.

I think of the signers of the Declaration, the winter at Valley Forge, the constitutional convention and the framing of a new nation where law is king, not man. 10/
I think of Lincoln’s quick wit, soft heart, wisdom and fundamental decency, of our national battle to rid ourselves of chattel slavery, and the costs of that battle. I think of our never-ending fight to morally stand tall, to right wrongs, 11/
to guarantee inalienable rights for all, to act as a beacon. I think of the incredible art borne of immigrants and people struggling through extraordinary hardship drawn to that beacon, art made possible because we welcome all, because we are a nation of laws, 12/
art we proudly call ours: Gershwin, Ellington, Jazz, R&B, Rock & Roll, Hip Hop, musicals, film, comedy, poetry, literature.

Then look at him, and consider your oath.

Is it worth it? Is he worth it?
