I don’t oppose Israeli apartheid and occupation of Palestine “as a Jew” or “as an Israeli.” I am opposed to these violations of human freedoms, as a human. That I’m Jewish and Israeli mean that the occupation and Israeli apartheid reflect on me with more intensity.
because Israel claims to be “the Jewish state” I feel ethically, responsibly called to answer for the actions of the Jewish state because of the way the state characterizes itself, but I would be opposed to this violence even if I wasn’t Jewish or Israeli.
Some Zionists insist that Jewish people who support Palestinian liberation are “tokenizing” ourselves and claim we’re using our identity as Jews to attack Israel.

No. My Jewishness isn’t the root of my objection to human rights abuses; my humanity is.
Conversely, and distressingly, most Zionists who in some way or another uphold the apartheid, do so AS JEWS.
It begs the question they never ask themselves: If I wasn't Jewish would this still be okay with me?
