Americans aren’t rioting in the streets like other countries because we’re prosperous and stable. People don’t riot because their leaders are pieces of shit, they riot because they’re poor and because unstable governments provide opportunities for rival factions.
Here are two things that make America genuinely unique: we’re the oldest constitutional democracy and we take that very seriously. In 240 years we’ve never missed or postponed an election, even during the Civil War.
2) We’re fantastically rich compared to the rest of the world. The median global income is around $2,000 a year. Being at the poverty line in America makes you richer than 90% of people alive. And no, making a $3 a day in Nigeria doesn’t scale to middle class there.
Why aren’t Americans rioting right now? For the exact same reasons you’re not rioting right now. And please don’t say it’s because everyone is too busy working, Hong Kong has a 2.9% unemployment rate, they might be the most employed country in the world.
