I'm sorry but a lot of folks avoid confronting injustice simply because they don't want to deal in discomfort or the possibility of having to sacrifice something or engage in struggle.

I really take issue w/ folk, particularly those referencing Christianity, who say that our job is to make peace with the kinds of evils that have existed in the world since the beginning. Folk do this thing where they try to justify remaining neutral in the face of evil. No.

“Evil has always been w/ us. Always will be.” Ok, but knowing the nature of this world is not an invitation to be a passive participant in evil systems while on earth. That’s why yesterday I mentioned the prophetic tradition of preaching against empire & corrupt power.

Folk have a million quotes & memes to share on this concept of "love." But if you’re looking the other way as ppl around you suffer, all you have is memes.

Love is an action. If you’re a believer in Christ, love is something Christ demonstrated through his actions—actions that led him to be crucified by the Roman Empire.

I know people are doing this out of fear, but fear is the enemy. God does not give us a spirit of fear in the face of evil & oppression. How do your actions in this moment demonstrate love beyond offering people thoughts & prayers as a man-made system continues to kill them?

(That's the opposite of what happened for anyone not familiar)
