Some ppl seem to have more respect for self-identification as a socialist than they do for queer genders.
But unlike gender where self identification is the only criteria required for respecting someone’s identity, socialist “identity” requires adherence to one or more tenets of socialism. Probably more than one.
And there are some things you are excluded from believing if you are meaningfully a socialist.
You may not be a socialist if you think capitalism ruined marriage and heterosexuality
You may not be a socialist if you think people should get real about racialized differences in intelligence and stop being so PC
You may not be a socialist if you believe in national self-determination for the UK or USA as an important principle
You may not be a socialist if you call yourself a “conservative” social democrat
You may not be a socialist if bodily self determination for all individuals isn’t on your list of priorities
You may not be a socialist if you aren’t an internationalist
You may not be a socialist if you think socialism is the government does stuff, that garbage collection govt insurance or sewer construction is “socialist” it might be good stuff but that’s not socialism
