So time to actually talk about these numbers. Because there's a lot of information around this that deserves to be further dug into.

Let's dig in, shall we? (THREAD BEGINS!)
First, 6 million units is no small feat and it jumps in claiming the "FASTEST SELLING SWITCH GAME" title.

That means within a few days it sold almost as much as Super Mario Party did in over a YEAR on the market. (SMP is sitting just under 8 million units sold atm).
The current "BEST SELLING" Switch game is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at nearly 20 million units sold. It's been on the market for over 2 years now.

Smash Ultimate is just under 16 mil
Super Mario Odyssey is sitting at just over 15 mil
and Breath of the Wild is just under 15 mil
Let's compare Sw/Sh to Sun/Moon.

Within the first weeks on the market Sun and Moon sold 7.1 million units WORLDWIDE, so ... yeah Sun and Moon beat Sword and Shield.

Here comes the BIG OL BUT~
The 3DS had just under 80 MILLION consoles sold over its entire lifetime, so by the time Sun and Moon had come out almost -everyone- had a 3DS.

Meanwhile the Switch is sitting around 40-ish million consoles sold so far...
So Sword and Shield DID sell 1.1 million units LESS, but it hit that 6 million mark with less than HALF the amount of consoles to play it in the hands of players.

That's WILD and impressive as heck.
In the end what this means for the mainline Pokémon games going forward is ... gray.

It sold well, so all that boycotting talk amounted to pretty much nothing.

You can expect more games in the future, for sure.

And whatever they did here will inspire future games.
Does that mean that the limited PokéDex will be a staple from here on out?

Unsure, but this did prove they didn't to lean on the "CATCH'EM ALL" phrase they've been pushing for 20 years to keep people engaged.

But "trying new things" worked out, so they'll probably try more.
Now let's talk "Review Scores", they're actually about average for Pokémon.

The series has a history of hovering between the high to low 80's (averaged out), so an 81 puts it on par with Fire Red/Leaf Green. Not bad, actually.
FYI, the current "WORST" Pokémon game by averaged score is Pokémon Emerald.

Which is firmly planted with a "Mid 70's" score averaged out.
If you saw the Inside Gaming review, you know my thoughts on Sw/Sh.

I liked it, but it firmly planted itself in the "middle" compared to every other mainline Pokémon game for me.

The changes weren't bad, but it also didn't feel "First Mainline Home Console Pokémon Game" to me.
I think the Pokémon series still has a lot of life left in it, and exploring new ideas and concepts are the best way to revitalize a series that's been doing "the same thing" for the most part for over 20 years.
Congrats to Game Freak, and I hope that the entire team is breathing a sigh of relief after all the harassment they suffered this year.

I also hope they have more time between this game and the next mainline game so they can polish the final product to perfection. (Thread END)
