It’s Friday, Nov. 22.

56 years ago today - also Fri., Nov. 22 - President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas.

I’ll try to give a little GIF-filled thread of what was happening that day.
After stops in San Antonio and Houston the day before, Kennedy woke up in Fort Worth, to a bit of a rain falling.
Kennedy’s first event was to meet and speak to a crowd which gathered outside the Hotel Texas.

Some of the people there had waited for four hours to get a glimpse of the president.
Kennedy opens: “There are no faint hearts in Fort Worth, and I appreciate your being here this morning. Mrs. Kennedy is organizing herself, it takes longer, but of course she looks better than we do when she does it.”
Kennedy shook hands before - and after - the parking lot speech.

Robert MacNeil, then with NBC, was covering the trip. He said when they walked back inside, Kennedy’s hands were so dirty from all the hand-shaking.
Back inside, Kennedy went to give what would be the last speech of his life - remarks to the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.

At 9:10 a.m., Kennedy walked into the packed ballroom alone.
About 10 minutes later, some say the real star of the trip walked in - Jackie Kennedy, wearing the soon-to-be historic pink suit and matching pillbox hat.

You can see @ClintHill_SS leading Jackie into the ballroom.
The speech opens with the famous lines: “Two years ago, I introduced myself in Paris by saying that I was the man who had accompanied Mrs. Kennedy to Paris. I'm getting somewhat that same sensation as I travel around Texas. Nobody wonders what Lyndon and I wear.”
Kennedy’s speech ends with the call: “I am confident, as I look to the future, that our chances for security, our chances for peace, are better than they have been in the past. ... To that great cause, Texas and the United States are committed.”
As a gift, Kennedy was given a nice a Stetson for "some protection against the rain”

He would wear it, but coaxed Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce president Raymond Buck to do so.

Kennedy told the crowd: “I’ll put it on in the White House on Monday.”
After that, it was time for the Kennedy party to leave Fort Worth and head to their next stop - Dallas.

I’ll try to pick this thread up in an hour, close to real time for his arrival.
Air this point, Air Force One (SAM 26000) is on its short way from Carswell AFB in Fort Worth to Love Field in Dallas.
11:38 a.m.: Air Force One touches down at Love Field in Dallas.

The GIF is from WFAA’s live coverage of that arrival.
