For this year, I decided to give my students more freedom in terms of their assessments, based on the current trend I’m reading about in HE literature. There’s a lot of creative license and a few bits of help I’ve offered (e.g. suggest layout) but overall, very few restrictions.
While I thought this would be a worthwhile endeavour, it’s backfired: I have never received as many calls for guidance, assistance, and clarification as I have this year. My students seem almost petrified of being creative and ā€œgetting it wrongā€ in spite of my reassurances.
There are maaaany variables here, and too many to address and describe on Twitter, but it’s been an eye-opening experience. I’ll continue to work to ensure they receive the best outcomes possible, but it’s caused my already crazy workload to go through the roof https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😵" title="Dizzy face" aria-label="Emoji: Dizzy face">
