THREAD: If you’re on maternity leave, these things will save you and your brain cells. I’d write a blog about it, but no time because, cornflake cakes and play dough.

Find out where your nearest drive-thru coffee establishment is. You do not need to earn your coffee with the assembly and dismantlement of a pushchair. You deserve the coffee regardless of enduring that fiasco.

Download all of the podcasts. My current favourites are @pna1977, @NiallAlcock, @GuiltFemPod, @HistoryGB and heaps on @audibleuk, but someone’s dulcet tones will get your little treasures to sleep, I can assure you.

Keep wipes and nappies in that central storage bit in your car. Your future self will thank you tenfold when they’re trying to be all ‘I’m just nipping out without the baby bag’ smug. They’re idiots.

Also, buy boxes. Oodles and oodles of boxes. Scoop toys into boxes with the relentless optimism that it makes you feel organised, and that’s what counts. Look! You can see your carpet!

Also, buy a phone charger for every storey, if not room, of your house. You know.

Keep stuff in packs. Colouring packs, jigsaw packs, reading packs, snack packs. Again, your car is an additional wardrobe for these- I use these and fill one with spare clothes, one with snacks, one with some form of distraction tactic. On a side note...

I use these for EVERYTHING- food for the freezer (as they are intended), cupboard storage, snacks and bibs etc etc etc etc. Cheap and reusable and goodbye, plastic seal bags that have a single- use shelf life.

However, the single use ones still get a good innings. Look away now in case you thought I was sane.

Lastly, @fiveminutemum is a great shout if you want to sit and do stuff but the Mum guilt is on full throttle.
