The Republican Party tries to spin Trump is a political victim of partisanship but what they fail to admit is, they created it. The GOP embraced Trump when it was clear people wanted change in government—Someone who would break through gridlock and bring fresh ideas. 1
His deplorable behavior was written off as a ‘campaign mode’ operating style & America needed to give him a chance to see he was above calling names, publicly attacking strong women, gold star families, and disabled reporters who didn’t agree with him. We wondered Russia’s role.2
We waited for policy. We waited for plans & direction from the new GOP President. And when they came it was with cruelty, anger, pettiness, and suspicion. The GOP did nothing to stop him. Did nothing to assure us they were providing oversight. Did nothing to protect the norms.3
Immediately upon winning Flynn got caught dealing with the same Russia who undermined our election and Trump began his stalwart denials. Evidence mounted and suspicion grew.
Rather than take a strong position oversight and soothe American worries the GOP became silent. 4
They became insulated, ignoring the many fears citizens began to have as facts emerged; and in doing so they became complicit. The GOP picked Trump and his base over 65% of the nation & its world allies. They did not reel Trump in, squash the blatant pettiness & lack of decorum.5
No. The GOP allowed this assault to grow and roll over outraged people who had good reason to be upset. Now the GOP stands before the American people and tries to paint Trump the victim for doing what exactly he has done all along—bully, belittle, and enrich himself.6
Always at the expense of others. This time, our Country, our norms, & Mmm our laws. Had Mitch, Ryan, Jordan & Nunes not allowed Trump to run slipshod & reeled him in to conform to even the basics of presidential norms, they would not be on TV now fuming & ranting blaming us.
They are parents who did not discipline, teach, and guide their wayward child and now that he has blown up the presidency, been caught breaking the law, bullying, and lying they choose to enable him further by protecting him and NOT the country. 8
Maybe Trump is the victim here. The victim of neglect, oversight, and bad parenting. A leader is only as good as his staff, his employees, and his mentors. Trump and the GOP have proved none of them value the laws, norms, and foundations this Country was built upon.9
None of them will concede the Republican Party is to blame for Trump’s impeachment problems. And none of them will admit they are guilty too. But they WILL turn their backs and blame 65% of US citizens who saw it coming and asked them to do something about it before now.
