for those of you following along with what’s happening in Colombia, just know that most of the protest here in Bogotá was super peaceful

the news generally doesn’t show that part of it though

also if you don’t yet know what a #Cacerolazo is, now is a good time to look

there were families, people of all ages and socioeconomic and ethnic and professional backgrounds, young and old, out for much of the day yesterday

too often, the portrayals of protest marches and who attends them are inaccurate

police oppression then creates a situation which makes it seem extreme to show up in the first place. imagery to incite fear spreads and deters people from taking up their right to peacefully assembly
