First, Let's just hammer home that Rick Gunn was bad. Unless you were a corporation, you didn't benefit from anything he ever did in his almost decade in office. The guy who touted himself as the most "business friendly conservative" ignored teachers: https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED595427.pdf
He actively supported things like HB2 and forcing municipalities to work with ICE to terrorize families. He went along with schemes to undermine the governor when it came to holding veto votes. More on that here: https://twitter.com/JeffJacksonNC/status/1189954377076764672?s=20
Gunn has chosen to move on with a business venture, now that he spent a decade cutting tax rates for businesses, with no regard for what those tax cuts will do to social programs, education, or families living in poverty or recovering from natural disasters.
So in steps @alamanceamy who has announced her campaign to replace Rick. Here are just a few of the questions I have for her campaign from day one.
When teachers rally and speak out for raises/more nurses/more support/lower class sizes, will she sit and listen to their demands and fight for them, or will she share idiotic propaganda like she has shared already on her social media?
Will she make snide comments like this one when teachers in Alamance County pushed for assistance? Will she tell NC voters to "form a non-profit" if they don't like what legislation she passes?
When voters and constituents push to remove confederate monuments as they are doing throughout NC, most recently in Chatham County, will she defend the monuments and double down on the hatred they stand for by asking us to think of how slavery was also difficult for white women?
When parents and students push for legislation to curb gun violence, will Amy side with the GOP in pushing for more guns in schools arming teachers and adding more resource officers? Or will she listen to teachers and students and parents?
Or will she try to equate students using their first amendment right to free speech and assembly to also ask why so many people complain about the hate and pain associated with the confederate flag?
I've lived in Alamance County for a little over 6 years, and in my time here there is not a single thing that she has done for this county that indicates giving her more power would be good for NC or any of its residents.
Her attempts to placate people who champion equality/equity/education while also flexing her "down home aw shucks conservative" credentials leaves her somewhere in the middle, with no real policies or ideas other than what choice will elicit the least amount of blowback.
I hope voters take the time to think about what they want here in NC, because if they do I think they will realize that voting for people like @JDWootenNC @rickyhurtadonc @GraigMeyer @JeffJacksonNC so @NCDemParty can help NC is the way to go.
Just gonna add to the thread of reasons she isn’t fit for office. Last I checked the right to peaceably assemble is an actual right and man imagine if MLK had only spoken up after receiving a permit?
Just going to continue adding to this thread of all the reasons our county commissioner is unfit to be in the General Assembly. https://twitter.com/southey/status/1220340115135795201
Just going to make sure I tag the candidate mentioned in this thread @amyscottgaley since she deleted her other account.
Also, it doesn't inspire confidence for someone running for office to not recuse themselves from a massive land deal that could at least give the appearance of a conflict of interest because "It would be hard to imagine any scenario where I see any money from this"
Just going to continue to add to this thread of why @amyscottgaley is unfit for office. She happily supports ICE and it's continued presence in Alamance County. Leading to families being terrorized and ripped apart. #ncpol http://www.ncpolicywatch.com/2020/02/28/n-c-immigrants-allies-vow-to-resist-ramped-up-ice-enforcement-actions/
If you prefer to keep families together and not having communities living in fear. I suggest you donate to and vote for people who actually care about everyone living in NC. Your best bet is to use http://longleafpineslate.org/  and contribute to multiple campaigns. @BlairReeves
It was bound to happen, our county commissioners lead by chair @amyscottgaley have decided to join the “reopen” brigade and send a letter to Roy Cooper requesting the easing of restrictions.
What’s wild is Amy comes from a family with generations of doctors in it. Alamance County has also seen an increase in positive tests since testing was implemented. While behind larger counties there has been no drop off in cases.
They may point to numbers within our counties but bordering counties matter a ton when 1/3 of your counties population commutes to and works in a different county. https://accessnc.nccommerce.com/DemoGraphicsReports/pdfs/countyProfile/NC/37001.pdf
In the letter Galey and her colleague lament the lack of internet in our rural county, but don’t seem to have the same energy when it comes to pushing our local elected officials @SenatorRickGunn @RepSteveRoss on expanding internet access. But they will raise the issue to Roy.
This letter is a milquetoast way to appease the “I want the freedom to get people sick” crowd that have gathered by the dozens in Raleigh and to try and paint Roy as a detriment to the economy when he is doing what is necessary until cases plateau and testing and tracing happen.
Amy and her fellow commissioners need to realize that until the are minimum is done by our federal government to give healthcare workers the staff and equipment they need to test and trace we will need to do our own part to keep people from dying.
Also there wasn’t follow up but I’m curious if commissioner Tim Sutton is going to send back his stimulus check since he believes public handouts are embarrassing as he once wrote in regards to his own family needing assistance. https://blogs.elon.edu/voicesofwelfare/tim-sutton/
Just add this to the laundry list of how unfit for office Galey and her fellow commissioners are and vote for people like @JDWootenNC @rickyhurtadonc @ElectPasion @GraigMeyer @JeffJacksonNC so they can help get NC safely back on track.
When the day after sending a letter to the governor asking to reopen the county you go out and show that you can’t even follow the most basic guidelines and practices to keep from spreading germs.
I’ll just keep adding to this thread as Amy Galey continues to prove how incompetent she is. https://twitter.com/forwardcarolina/status/1265957866810327043?s=21 https://twitter.com/forwardcarolina/status/1265957866810327043
