So like, I kind of hate how “animation for adults” is apparently cartoons where characters say fuck words, talk about sex, & are disrespectful, & nobody gives examples that just have intelligent & mature themes that would appeal to adults. https://twitter.com/Babyl0n96/status/1196899023178915841
Bc honestly the people who really get excited about sex and naughty language in their cartoons are teenagers, not adults.
As a couple of people have pointed out, King of the Hill is a fantastic example of an adult cartoon that doesn’t have any of these qualities.
Many don’t take animation seriously as a medium bc they think it’s childish, & I think edgy shows that rely on swearing & sexual content for humor undermine the medium’s capacity for emotional depth & meaning, esp. when this kind of thing is what we associate w/adult content
