Remote work is a labor rights issue.
Remote work makes work more accessible: for people with disabilities, for people with mental health issues, for people outside major cities, for parents/guardians/caretakers, etc
Remote work shouldn't be a luxury. It shouldn't be only something you earn with seniority. It shouldn't be seen as a perk. You shouldn't need special permission to work remotely.

If you work from a phone or computer, you should be able to work remotely.
Your company makes excuses for why they don't want you to work remotely.

It's not good for the culture. It's not good for early career employees. It's easy to slack off.

Imo, the real reason why they resist remote work? It means autonomy, and employers want control.
You don't need to spend half your income on rent in a tech hub.

You don't need to force yourself to get up in the morning if you're not a morning person.

You don't need to miss your kid's first steps or dance recital because you're at the office.
You don't need to commute for 3 hours a day.

You don't need to move across the country for your dream job.

You don't need to deal with the stress of being in an office all day.
I'm thinking about this today because I got up late, and I always start my days with a workout because it helps treat my anxiety.

Working remotely and having a flexible schedule means I don't have to sacrifice my workout to be somewhere at a certain time.
It also means I'm not dealing with social anxiety from working in an office. And I can pay off debts and help my mom with bills because I'm not living in an expensive tech hub. And I can bring my laptop out to my backyard and work for there if it's not too hot.
Remote work means I can pet my brother's dog during a Zoom meeting, and make a salad in my kitchen instead of spending more $$$ on food, and take a power nap in my bed, and listen to music and dance while I'm trying to solve a problem.
Remote work isn't for everyone. Some people simply don't like it. That's fine.

But remote work, IMO, is a right. And we should fight for it along with fair pay, good hours, and other labor rights.
Also, paying remote workers (in the US) differently based on location?

Not it.
