Infrastructure and lots of people can be a challenge, I see it every morning when I am on the tube and not sure whether I will be squashed to death on the way to work lol. What can be done, rather than parrot racist arguments from the far right?
No 1: Investment, obviously. Not just more frequent services, but explore how routes have been developed. Are there areas that are served by only one station with a large catchment area? Meaning it concentrates lots of commuters? Build more/other routes on the way
No 2: Affordable housing. Lots of us who commute live far away from our workplace because we can't live somewhere closer to our work because it is fucking expensive. It takes pressure of certain stations if people can live in more practical areas and maybe walk or bike to work
No 3: Flexible working hours. Why do we all have to be in work at the same time? If you go on the Northern Line from Tooting at 8.40 you can often get a seat. If you go at 8.15 people bang on the windows and shout at you to move when you absolutely cannot move.
No 4: Job opportunities - there will be less commuting and pressure on public transport if we spread out work opportunities more evenly. Lots of people come into London from the Midlands to work because of the lack of opportunities. It's also fucking expensive to do that.
This intersects w housing: people have jobs in London they can't get elsewhere and have to commute for. But they cannot afford to live in London, esp when they want a family. So they go out of London and buy houses in other areas where their London wages press up prices
If we have a more equally balanced economy, affordable housing, investment in infrastructure and flexible working then voila! Everyone will be much better off and we can all be happy. How to get there? Vote Labour 🌹 on 12th December. And stop blaming migrants thanks.
