A few things on the Colin Kaepernick workout we'll put in a thread here (it'll take a few tweets) ...

1) The NFL initially reached out to Kaepernick's camp on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. ET.

2) Kap's camp wasn't involved in planning it.

3) Memo went to teams late Tuesday afternoon.
4) The NFL wanted it at a team facility, making a Saturday after a team had already left for a road game the most feasible option.

5) The NFL planned it in response to teams reaching to their football ops people on Kaepernick, without taking any action.
6) By doing it now, it might create an opportunity for Kap to get a 6-week audition with a team for a 2020 roster spot.

7) It also creates some information for teams that don't have a spot for him now, but might consider him in 2020.

8) There's a big PR element to all of this.
9) That PR element? This has been a 3-year story, and the NFL is clearly trying to manufacture a put-up-or-shut-up moment for Kaepernick to shift the narrative.

10) That said, while Kaepernick's is a unique case, this is an opportunity that no street free agent is ever afforded.
