1) i dont wanna get into drama but i think there is a difference between being entitled and asking for easier accessibility to a product. i was the first to call out entitlement when, after the success of juliantina, ppl started asking that the spinoff had them speak in english
2) bc as someone whose native language is NOT english, i recognize that the demand of altering a product for the consumption of an audience who's used to /getting/ things is just unfair. the story wasnt made for english or american audiences.
3) whats happening now tho is different. nobody is asking to alter the product to make it fit an english monopoly, they are simply asking the chance to be able to appreciate that product, to understand it and share it and love it. hence the subtitles.
4) subtitles are how foreign cinema and tv is shared, understood, regardless the language of the subs. english is simply the default one, universally understood (let's not get into the history of it here). in juliantina's case, subs are how people discovered this amazing story
5) i dont find it demanding or irrational to ask for the chance to continue to understand a story that has touched millions across the world. the internationality of the fandom gets praised by the creators and producers themselves. and yet...
6) that's not to say "act now televisa or we boycott!" bc that's not right either. and a subbing process can take time too (which is why we should love the fans who translated content live and shared it for us so quickly... true heroes) so i get the lack of immediate action
7) but ACKNOWLEDGING the fans' request, a request rooted in the desire to continue SUPPORTING the show on their official channel, would be SO EASY. "We are working on adding subs to the YT playlist. Thank you for your patience!" Is it that hard? That irrational of a request?
8) Calling for a boycott or hoping the show/movie flops is dumb and entitled and the wrong approach, but let's not mix that with the legitimate wish to simply keep understanding a story that's touched so many people.
9) And if you can't add subs rn, at least don't block the videos that do HAVE subs, don't take away the means international fans have to understand the story, while praising those same fans in the same breath. Bc that's hypocritical.
10) So those are my two cents, I wrote too much as usual and lemme state again I want no drama. Now go and watch Juliantina AND Portrait of a Lady on Fire thanks🖼️🔥
