Ok, as some of you seem interested Tom Newton Dunn and me.
A thread.
I covered a trial at the Old Bailey of a Sun Westminster reporter called Clodagh Hartley, who was accused of bribing a civil servant for details of a forthcoming budget.
It wasn't a big case, only a couple of journos there
As part of her defence she claimed she had been harassed by her boss, Tom Newton Dunn, to get stories at any cost.
However the judge, Mr Justice Saunders ruled that as there was a possibility of further legal action we could not name her boss.
So during the whole trial when his name came up we said "a senior Sun reporter" or whatever.
Not a big deal, really wasn't that important tbh.
Anyway she was found not guilty, and at the end of the case we had the usual hearing about what reporting restrictions should be lifted and which should stay in place.
Mr Justice Saunders asked the assembled press (the three of us) if we were applying to name Tom Newton Dunn as the "senior Sun reporter," involved.
None of us were that bothered so we just sat there.
Then, suddenly, Dunn's barrister showed up and "demanded" that the press report his client had been cleared by an internal inquiry...

The judge asked "are you sure?"

He insisted.

So I tweeted it out as requested...
Next thing I know my phone rang and it was Mr TND.
(Not sure how he got my number)
He was very angry, threatening me with court action and all sorts of terrible consequences.
I, not very calmly, pointed out his own barrister had demanded we report it and he should shout at him not me.
He hung up.
Forgot all about it until last month TND went on National TV and said I was not a "boni fide journalist" when I was quoting the government's own documents from the court of Session.
And that's the story, I was called a "partisan' by the political editor of The Sun because he had a grudge from 2014.

Feel free to draw your own conclusions about his "journalism."
