Okay, a new set of monthly figures on EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) from the Home Office is out today and it's all pretty dire... Here we go!

1. Bulgaria becomes the first country to break 100% of applications. ONS estimates there are 101,000 Bulgarian citizens in the UK, yet the Home Office shows 123,000 EUSS applications from them, so an application rate of... 122%.
There simply is no good benchmark for these stats.

2. For a second month ruining, more than half a million people applied to the EUSS. Good to see. However...
3. A huge backlog of unconcluded cases has built up, well over half a million. The Home Office states on their website that "unusual" applications may wait longer, and explains unusual means some categories of children and family members. Concerned about equalities? Yeah, me too.
From the graphs it is clear this backlog will take months to clear.
I have put in a Freedom of Information request about the waiting times, and types of applicants in the backlog. It was refused. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

4. For months now I have argued that the ratio of settled to pre-settled grants shows a worrying trend whereby more and more people are parked on the inferior pre-settled status.
Well, it just got worse.

Wondering what the difference between settled and pre-settled status is? Check out our table.
Please reapply if you got the wrong status, and consider getting in touch with us to share the story.

5. The trend in application totals is clear, with 40% of applicants parked on pre-settled status. Many of those decision will be correct of course, but the Home Office refuses to measure or search its own data to identify those that are not. Very troubling.
Told you, it's grim. Oh and guess what... We still have no breakdown of application outcomes by gender.
