Keep seeing Ohio State fans complaining about how Georgia being in front is an SEC bias thing stating that their losses to Iowa and Purdue and Iowa the past 2 years were treated in a worse way and I have a couple problems with this
1. Of all the teams in American, Ohio St is the last team that is allowed to complain about the committee overlooking a bad loss because of the rest of their resume. If you look back at the very first CFP, Ohio State lost to an unranked Virginia Tech by 2 touchdowns at home
That team ended the year beating 3 top 25 teams in Michigan St, Minnesota and a 59-0 drumming against a 13th ranked Wisconsin in the big 10 championship. They ended up going in over a one loss Baylor who’s loss was to an unranked West Virginia and TCU who’s loss was to Baylor.
The committee overlooked the team with the worst loss because of their wins. That team went on to upset 1. Alabama and then 2. Oregon to win the national championship.
2. Ohio State’s losses to Purdue and Iowa weren’t just losses they were blowouts. Ohio State lost to Iowa in 2017 24-55 for their second blowout loss of the year and to Purdue in 2018 20-49...and both years they were in the discussion to make the playoff even still...
3. Ohio State likes to complain that bama is given this glory treatment but in my opinion that same treatment is given to Ohio State. Look back at the 2016 season. Ohio State was given the number 3 spot in the playoff over Penn State who not only beat them
But also won their division AND conference..the reason being that Penn State lost to a bad Pitt team and was blown out by a Michigan team that Ohio St beat. Sound familiar? Look at the 2017 season when Bama made the playoff over a 2 loss Ohio State. Same exact thing but
when they are on the other side Ohio State is “being cheated”
I don’t say this to bash on Ohio State fans which I have done plenty of in my time but I say this to show to people that if you actually pay attention and dig deep into each teams resume the committee has actually been extremely consistent every year.
Are there times when I disagree with what they do? Absolutely (like not having Texas in the rankings last week but now having them at 19) but when it comes down to the top 6-10 they have always been mostly consistent and this year has been no different.
This is why the people who actually understand college football can predict what the Top 10 will be every week.
