The leaders of northern Gedo engaged with the FGS reconciliatory negotiations mediated by Ethiopian Generals. Negotiations were held in Adama (Nazareth) Ethiopia which was perceived by the parties as neutral ground for the meetings given the recent mistrust between the parties.
The negotiations unfolded with central theme of discussion being the release of the detained JL minister of security. FGS countered the request with conditions that the leaders need to withdraw their support to JL president Madobe which FGS termed his re-election as NULL & VOID.
Agreement was reached at the end of the meeting though details are sketchy. Sources confirmed that significant compromise were reached on all the pertaining issues including,
-The release of the detained minister
-Leaders support 2 FGS
-Inclusion of Darawish forces 2 FGS army
This process is said to be the first step in the implementation of the agreement as Federal army technical committees are expected to reach the three districts in a short time. Though detailed terms of any signed copy of the agreement is yet to be published.
It is believed & analyzed that the agreement will withhold in the short time. This is due to the fact that Ethiopia was power broker in the mediation process & guarantor of the agreement implementation.
The agreement is 4 short term period until JL election uncertainty is resolved. The pple in the 3 Districts jubilantly welcomed the agreement & FGS is using this agreement 2 make significant gains in JL & pressure Madobe also makes the prospect of the agreement triumphant likely.
Despite the + factors there is strong "aura of skepticism" in survival of this accord due 2.
-Recent FGS similar agreement with ASWJ forces in Galmudug resulted "out muscling" ASWJ & led the defeat of dissolving ASWJ forces 2 detriment ASWJ leader's political life & influence..
-Many FGS allied politicians who are politically exiled from the three districts will likely take advantage of the agreement and return to the areas. This might lead to new wave of political competition between the formerly pro and anti Jubbaland local political camps.
2 counter possible shortcomings, leaders proposed though its unknown if FGS agreed too as follows;
-Forces will not be taken outside the region & will integrate them 2 federal army while in their areas
-FGS will not make any changes 2 current admin structures in the 3 districts.
