Today is #WorldDiabetesDay. It has been an incredible honor to make #t1d one of my #phd case studies and to learn about this debilitating condition. It& #39;s always great to see the technological advances in the field, not so great the increase in insulin costs.
While I studied the auto immune form of the disease and the mechanisms that influence auto immunity are still not completely known, the majority of the patients have type 2 diabetes, where the body becomes resistant to insulin and glucose control is impaired.
Lifestyle changes are important to prevent the onset of T2D! A healthy diet and exercise are key, why not join the #150mins challenge by @KrishanaSankar, where you commit yourself to 150 min/week of exercise, according to WHO recommendations?
I& #39;m aware I still know little about the condition but it& #39;s always great to learn about this key societal challenge. Great resources for learning are also provided by @JoslinDiabetes . Hoping for continued research in the field to generate cost-effective therapies.
