Actually i'm going to do a little thread explaining what i'm talking about because I just remembered most DFS strategy content is behind paywalls lol 1/
In Daily Fantasy having a unique strategy is incredibly important because you can only gain leverage over the field by having different players than them. If you just take all the most obvious (and even optimal) plays you can cut off your path to winning a tournament 2/
something one of my favorite content produces tries to instill is not thinking "how do i do well" but "how do i win this tournament". This mindset forces you to consider thing outside the normal range of what would be considered "optimal" in order to expose yourself to upside 3/
Transferring THAT to Magic is where I think the leverage is. So many people just accept the premise of the format as the majority sees it without ever really considering another path. Granted a bunch of stuff has been busted recently, but that's not an excuse to stop thinking
Example: What gives you a better shot to win (not do well, win) this weekend? Trying to win a bunch of die rolls in Devotion mirrors or finding the deck that has positive MU against it even if your giving up equity vs the field? The latter option clearly has higher upside
but it's risky and you could 0-3 drop so people just try and stay safe. Being comfortable with taking on risk to gain exposure to upside is something Magic players need to be more open to or else you will just close yourself off to ever getting those spike weekends
I'm not trying to say "always play hard targeted jank" or whatever. It's about the mindset of exposing yourself to the possibly that what the field thinks is optimal may not actually be optimal and being comfortable taking on risk to leverage that when appropriate. end/
