Unrelatedly, the thing about gatekeeping is that it's only as good or bad as the legitimacy of the gates, and I wish people wouldn't demonise gatekeeping practices in ways that only make entrance requirements obscure and nebulous.
I mean that was a good thread but I'm not part of Homestuck Twitter and don't have any idea how to become part of that group of cool dudes so I guess the only people who'll see it won't care about it?
Not that anyone has any obligation to include me ofc, but the point is that Homestuck Twitter has gates just as anything else does, but I just don't know where they are, and if they're open at all, let alone how to get in!
Procedurally, this is not better than the academy's intimidating but transparent system of quantifiable and commensurable entrance exams.

It's not worse, either. Indeed, it's more appropriate to stuff like friend groups, which HS Twitter kinda is too!
So idfk but it's not nice to be on the wrong side of the gates, whatever they look like.
