She asked the guys at the front about some favourite Syrian items that would be familiar to the family and they called on one of the staff stocking the shelves who happened to be a young Syrian guy. He took over mom’s shopping cart and took her through the aisles.
He also suggested a couple trays of sweets, which he said they would like. When my mom went to pay for it all, he took the desserts aside and told her that was his contribution, a way of helping her for helping them.
Turns out this guy had come over from Syria three years ago. Saw an opportunity to pay it forward a bit. Just a happy story of people doing nice things for other people.
