A quick thread on a worrying trend emerging since Boris Johnson became Prime Minister, inspired by @joepike.

The PM was in South Yorkshire today. We weren’t invited. To my knowledge, no regional media were invited at all. Just national media.
Obviously we were there anyway, as were other regional colleagues.

But this is not the first time this has happened. Since Boris Johnson became PM, he’s been to Yorkshire several times, maybe 5 or 6. I can only recall one occasion when we were told he was coming.
Today, I called the No 10 Press Office an hour before he arrived in Stainforth saying I’d heard he was coming and asking for details of where and when. I was told they’d call me back. They didn’t.

My colleague did the same with the Tory Party press office and also got no answer.
Every time another party leader has been in our patch, we’ve been sent an ops note in advance of the visit.

For some reason No 10 doesn’t think it’s important regional media can hold the Prime Minister to account for issues that are at the core of their communities.
Flood victims in South Yorkshire have relied heavily on their local radio stations, newspapers and TV programmes for up to date information at such a worrying time.

For the PM not to stop inviting them to his appearances will certainly not endear him to them.
