1/ A Thread about being a life saver:
5 years ago today I accompanied my son Adam from Clatterbridge @TeenageCancer unit on The Wirral to the @Royal_lpool_tst stem cell transplant unit. Here we are on the way racing through the Mersey tunnel blue lights and sirens!

2/ Adam was receiving a stem cell transplant from a 26 year old American woman. He had relapsed after treatment for Burkitts lymphoma and this was his one chance of survival. Here he is receiving his stem cells in the isolation unit where he was to stay for the next 3 weeks

3/ The transplant was hopefully going to defeat his cancer and Adam toughed out the isolation although he did get lots of visits from family and friends

4/ eventually Adam could return home,future was extremely uncertain. The scans showed the cancer was not growing but not shrinking either. Adam set out to have as fun a teenage life as he could.
He attended parties and discovered he was an affectionate drunk! “I lurve you Mum”

5/ he had a lads weekend away in the Lakes a family trip to York. He drove a friend’s Landrover and we had our annual family ‘cousins camp’ In fact we had a lovely time in the summer of 2015 despite the fact we all knew his cancer was starting to grow again

We had this bitter sweet summer because that unknown American has signed on to the stem cell register in her home country and been a match for Adam. When the call went out from his doctors she was there on the register a 10/10 match

Sadly the cancer continued to take over his body and in March 2016 Adam went to stay in @ClaireHouse a beautiful hospice close to home. On March 11th 2016 he died a few days after this photo was taken

7 So why this sad thread? Well I want to thank that American woman and I want everyone to know that if you are there on the register you too could give life. Although Adam did not survive he lived a life of hope and fun. You too could be a stem cell donor and give a person hope
