Thread/ I received dozens of emails after being on The Drum last night, all from non-Indigenous people expressing solidarity & asking how they can contribute to our fight 👊🏽

These are just my thoughts/suggestions, I’m not an activism expert, and I don’t speak for all mob.
1. Keep yourself inform.
You need to ensure you are reading media who actually report on our issues, not just the ones who might comment on it once it’s gotten big.

Follow First Nations People on socials & subscribe to/engaging media like: @IndigenousX @NITV @guardian
2. When there is an incident, be sure to look at who the community is who are impacted, & if they have released a statement, read it & see how YOU can contribute to THEIR call to action. eg Warlpiri community were clear they wanted social media used to amplify this matter
3. Turn up. We know it’s difficult, its often short notice & we all have time constraints, carer responsibilities, etc. that’s part of why protest is so impacting. Turn up anyway. Then follow the lead of the mob with the PA. Listen, stand in solidarity, and be present.
4. If you know you’re able to attend, consider gifting your time as a marshal or joining in on banner painting etc. This is the prep work that is invisible but so important. If you’re following mob on socials you will generally see calls for volunteers in the lead up.
5. Give financially. Always check that the account is supported by the mob they say the funds are for, and then if you can, give. Fighting for justice when your loved one has been killed in custody takes resources, if you can, give financially.
6. If you’d like to contribute to supporting the legal costs for Kumanjayi Walker’s family, many of the lawyers are working pro bono but it’s expensive to physically get them to Warlpiri. Please give here 👇🏽

7. Lastly, call it out when you see racism. This is all interwoven, from the shop attendant & security guard following mob while they shop, to the racist vitriol we know will be across tabloid media for all of January as we approach Jan 26 - if you see it CALL IT OUT
8. You’re all agents of change if you want to be. Start with yourself, with your knowledge base, your assumptions & perhaps misinformation you’ve grown up taught & believing. Take this change with you to your workplace, to your research, writing, hobbies, wherever you are.
End.
