I think most of the fandom had taken the character wildly out of context, though a single poorly-decided schtick has not helped this any for him.

I’m grateful that it seems to have actually been abandoned, but the damage was done.

“What do you mean by abandoned?”

I mean the only references we have to that shitty bit on his characterisation comes from two items:

• The lolicon comment
• “Prefer my women to be 12 and under.”

Beyond these two instances, this has completely died — almost like it was an

abandoned character trait. Arguments can even be made around these two bits of statements, but I’m sure as hell not getting into that right now — though at some point I may make a thread regarding the different ways a person can interpret his character and these lines.

My point

is: if you set that aside, he’s an interesting, flawed human being who has been put into a situation I don’t believe he ever would have gone to originally.

I don’t buy into the theory that if it weren’t for Natsume he would be a terrorist/doing world domination/etc. If we look

at Mori before the Mafia, he was actually quite content as an underground doctor: yes, he was a demon in his own right — created by circumstances and things we Don’t Know About Yet But Boy Do I Want To — but he only entered the Mafia because of Natsume’s triumvirate idea.

Power

isn’t something he seems to be intrinsically interested in. Yokohama — protecting it and *loving this city* — seems to better suit his core ideals.

It’s what binds him and Fukuzawa together, afterall, and keeps the three organisations running the way they do.

I just think

there is a LOT more here than what the majority of the fandom gives credit for.
