It is impossible for a colonized minority to appropriate from mainstream culture. Mainstream culture was literally forced upon us. It’s the baseline of all of our lives. Whereas minority cultures risk erasure, you don’t.
It is impossible for a colonized minority to appropriate from mainstream culture. Mainstream culture was literally forced upon us. It’s the baseline of all of our lives. Whereas minority cultures risk erasure, you don’t.
Example: I am not appropriating when I use electronics on my album. I went to raves in University just like you. I listened to all the mainstream music like you did.
The Inuit population is under 50,000 in Canada, many struggling financially. Erasure of our culture is a real threat. The government actually tried/are trying to erase us. Don’t reduce us to caricatures.
Don’t steal from us. We don’t have much for renewable resources when it comes to export, especially when capitalist propaganda groups like @peta are vilifying us.
Don’t steal more of our culture. Don’t steal our songs. Don’t steal Kattajjak. If I can beseech you to try to see it from my viewpoint, everything was taken. Land, water rights, our children, our lives. Let us own something and stop being so greedy.
