I witnessed something the other day I’d like to tweet about because it’s about the interplay between Twitter & real life, so this feels like the most appropriate place to do it.

It’s about kindness, politeness & respect. (Short thread)
I was in a bar, at a social event. I was ordering a drink. Someone who I mutually follow on Twitter was chatting to me at the bar - I like them a lot in real life, although I don’t agree with 90% of their posts.
Someone else who I didn’t know but who obviously followed them approached the bar, seemingly a little tipsy, & told my friend that they were “a Brexit fascist” and “terrible on Twitter” and that they should delete their account.

It was verrrry awkward
This sort of thing puts me off having an account.

I have no authority on here, I’m just a random person who has been on here a while, just like many of you.

Can I just suggest one thing though?
If you don’t like what someone tweets, just mute them. Don’t approach them to be rude, either on or offline.

People are not their Twitter accounts.

I suppose it’s good to also remember that all sorts of people read what we post & it affects their opinion of us in real life.
It’s good to have mates who keep you in check (hello to you 😘), but it’s also really important to be kind & not to pre-judge based on what is just a ranting outlet for many.

💚
