Gamer opinion thread in light of the whole #GameFreakLied debacle.
Disclaimer: I'm not a pokemon fan, but I promise I'm not gonna be like "it's just a game! what are you a bunch of dumb kids? lol" bc I know pokemon means a lot to a lot of people.
I seriously can't comprehend how crunch time in video game development is at all beneficial to companies. There are so many horror stories from devs about working under crushing conditions just so they could get a game out in time, and the game coming out less than perfect anyway
ESPECIALLY when there are now so many examples of games taking their time in development with SPECTACULAR results. Animal Crossing, Cup Head, BotW, Luigi's Mansion 3, just to name a few.
In fact, a lot of games that delay deadlines for quality are celebrated by the public and consumers. It's so nice as a consumer to know that the artists making your game were treated with respect.
A recent example of this is @rustylakecom announcing they would be delaying their game The White Door. The replies of this tweet are overwhelmingly supportive. Dozens of fans saying to take as much time as they need because their games are worth it (and they ARE worth it)
Gamers aren't impatient brats. We know that good things take time and come to those who wait.

GameFreak on the other hand, currently seems to be in some kind of nightmarish low-morale, annual deadline, eternal crunch time hell.
I'm not saying Game Freak is completely innocent. There is irrefutable evidence that they've been dishonest multiple times, and the fans are right to be upset about being lied to about something they love.
I'm just saying that I don't see how it's possible for GF to make quality games anymore without a complete restructuring of how they do things. Stop annual releases. Stop crunchtime. Be honest with your passionate and loyal fanbase. Treat your devs with the respect they deserve.
If they make those changes I honestly believe they'll make better games, their fans would love it, and it would bring in a new audience. But idk how realistic that is lmao.
END OF GAMER RANT: In conclusion, I can't wait for White Door lol. I already love @rustylakecom and knowing they take give their devs time to create art makes me respect them even more.

I need to write an essay now. Love you!
