IMPORTANT READ: Almost overnight, YouTube is in much much danger;

Its absolutely mind blowing that COPPA is being fit to @YouTube with such little insight. COPPA is probably the most uninformed internet intended law ive ever heard proposed, why? Let me explain:
COPPA in short is supposed to "give parents power over kids data" but the law that is to define this is so nuance & vague.

In its current form, if you produce "Content that may be attractive to children," you could receive a fine upwards to $42K... YOU. The CREATOR.
You see, US law often likes to pass VAST yet VAGUE regulations so that they can obtain enough power for many many many use cases, often at the discretion of government, & there is no difference with this COPPA addendum.
So... what might this do.. *AHEM* ALREADY HAS DONE? Youtube has added a setting to ask you if your content is made for kids or not, & is using automation to help with this (another flag to worry about now)
reason being, this is a LAW addendum, they have no choice, & they want to protect themselves, but also you as well.

Congress is warning of a "content sweep" in which they are going to fine many creators + YouTube for breaking this law.
having hundreds to thousands of creators fined would fundamentally change YouTube overnight if they go that extreme.

BUT that doesn& #39;t mean very damaging changes aren& #39;t already here.
Currently as you know YouTube, advertisers pretty much dictate the content on the platform. They have the money, you want the money, you do what they want from you to get the money, which is the classic "Family Friendly" regulation. BUT.
COPPA is currently so vague, that "Family Friendly" may also be defined as content attractive towards kids. So are you liable to get a fine for wanting to please advertisers, but in affect made content that kids also enjoy?
Well it doesn& #39;t matter because if you want to be safe from a fine & mark "made for kids," you will be punished for it with low ad rev &, practically every important feature removed.
& so you as a creator, already struggling as it is want growth & prosperity on the platform, decide to either work for EVEN LESS REV, or create more mature content, Im sure what most will do... but this leads me to the reason of wanted to write this thread
If creating "Family Friendly" content is now, currently, like, THIS VERY SECOND, is too risky due to low ads, no features, & or a crazy fine from the FTC... then... who is going to create content for children on YouTube?
The unintended effect of this knee jerk from congress is that it is going to make the platform, that most young people consume in abundance, more mature, & if finding more mature content is easier to find than family friendly overall, congress do you find this a better solution?
Not to mention from a creator & advertiser concern, we all know Family Friendly content makes the most in ad rev, will that option for advertisers slowly disappear overnight? How will this change advertising?
Now, I understand what the objective is for COPPA being fit to YouTube, & I want to protect kids just like the next person, but knee jerking is a terrible thing to do. Congress needs to educate themselves more about the decisions they make in regard to the internet.
Yes, there are some bad actors on YouTube, but its not representative of the whole. Ryan& #39;s Toy Reviews & Jake Paul aren& #39;t the only type of content made for kids. These things need to be taken seriously considering the number of people its affecting, & i dont even mean monetarily.
This isn& #39;t looking good, due to laws, YouTube is becoming more & more homogenized, & unfortunately has to take the blame for most of it. I could go on for days about this, but I have to stop somewhere.
