Filling out a survey and they're asking about % females in attendance as a mandatory question. Nothing about other minorities or other demographics.
Females... are we asking by birth? By what they identify as? I don't ask my attendees their gender - it doesn't matter. I don't feel like this is a right question to ask. But because they push for an answer, I guess rather than leaving it at 0.
And I am not saying that gender doesn't matter in general. To me, if you are coming to an event/conference/hackathon , I think it's something you (as a person) are interested in or curious about. And if you want to be there - be excellent to each other, regardless of demographic.
The other thing is that I hear "more women" and "more minorities." I don't like diversity for the sake of diversity. I want more people with different perspectives who can help make this world a better place. All about inclusion, learning, and growth.
