NYK fans, media and front office expectations for this season have been wildly out off control. You don't rebuild in one season. 17-18 was not a rebuild year, injuries derailed it. 16-17 was not a rebuild year, they were just bad. Frank & Knox do not have superstar ceilings.
Mitch while talented, was an undrafted player. He's your diamond in the rough that every good team eventually needs to find, but he's not yet a building block either. RJ Barrett is your first blue chipper, and his ceiling is probably as a #2. Doing this right takes time...
Once you trade KP and miss Durant, that's it you're back at square 1. 18-19 was the first step. You got RJ. Great! You have young complementary players you want to develop. Awesome! You have cap space and flexibility. Fantastic! But it's ok to lose. You need another high pick.
The flaw here was comparing to other organizations. Organic growth is unique. Copycats never get it right. Trying to copy the Nets model by getting Vets? You got too many. Measuring growth vs ATL? They have Trae Young, you don't. Going for 8th seed w/ this roster is/was crazy.
Yes, 2013 was a long time ago, but learn from the mistakes of the past, don't repeat them. This organization needs to learn to be patient & stable. Are Fiz's rotations horrible? Yeah, they are. He buried Frank. No good. You evaluate his season & make a decision at the end of it.
What you don't do is this. You don't panic in FA, & sign Randle, Morris, & Portis. You don't panic after 10 games & let the press devour the team. Don't show that you are the same unstable franchise. Perry brought w/ him hope that this front office was different. Don't ruin that
