Last night I attended #Calne Area Board to hear about Wiltshire Council plans for thousands of new homes on the (mostly) eastern side of Chippenham. These will be developed with the infrastructure first, followed by the housing. If you're in the dark about this, you're not alone.
Calne Town Councillors and some Wiltshire Councillors - even those representing Chippenham - found out about this in @wiltsgazette first. Great journalism, but not acceptable behaviour from @wiltscouncil
#Calne has grown in a piecemeal way, with no development in more recent years ever quite big enough to warrant proper investment in roads - a much needed Eastern bypass for instance, or other infrastructure. #NorthWiltshire
That Wiltshire Council leader Philip Whitehead didn't even acknowledge this and simply gave a presentation that looked like it had been written for a Chippenham audience was pretty disrespectful I thought. #Calne #NorthWiltshire
This massive housing development for Chippenham will have huge consequences, some good, some bad, some which we can plan for, some of which will be unintended for #Calne, #CalneWithout and #NorthWiltshire It's unacceptable that we are only finding out now.
When was the last time our Wiltshire Council or our MP sought, or brought structural investment funds to #Calne? Who lobbies for Calne in Trowbridge and Westminster? http://vote.labour.org.uk/jon-fisher
