#DYK: The majority of Latina/xs, including Catholic Latina/xs, use contraception at some point in their lives.
Today is @powertodecide's #ThnxBirthControl day so we are using our #WednesdayWisdom series to highlight just how important Birth Control is 2 the Latina/x community!
According to @Guttmacher "Unintended pregnancy rates are highest among low-income women, women aged 18–24, cohabiting women, & women of color." This is why @NLIRH fights to ensure that all Latina/xs are informed about their options for safe & effective forms of contraception.
Nobody should have to decide between paying for birth control and putting food on the table. Covering birth control saves ppl over $500 or more each year. In this economy, that savings could mean the world to struggling families. #WednesdayWisdom #thxbirthcontrol
Using contraceptives to plan and space pregnancies improves the health of a Latina/x. Ensuring that people have the tools to plan the number and spacing of children reduces the risk of maternal death, low birth weight, and infant mortality. #WednesdayWisdom #thxbirthcontrol
DONT GET IT TWISTED: CONTRACEPTIVE ACCESS IS A RIGHT! @Scotus "made it clear in Griswold v. Connecticut that the right to make private decisions about birth control is fundamental and protected by the U.S. Constitution." Read more here via @Refinery29 https://r29.co/36Z4T46
Poverty, lack of insurance, & immigration status often block Latina/xs from accessing contraception, and we know there’s still much work to be done in breaking down systemic barriers that keep Latina/xs from reproductive care. #WednesdayWisdom #thxbirthcontrol
Latina/xs continue to have higher rates of unintended pregnancy than their white peers, due in LARGE part to LACK OF ACCESS to health care and comprehensive sex education. It's a systematic issue. Our community deserves access and education! #WednesdayWisdom #thxbirthcontrol
