It may not look like it now, but I come from as working class a background as one can have. Without FoM the opportunities that made me who I am would not have been there. And it makes me even more furious that he is dog-whistling and gaslighting to do it. To keep spreading long-debunked rubbish about immigration and FoM is irresponsible and wrong. Neither are the root cause for any of the problems communities in the UK are faced with. Not one.

By continuing to focus on migration, a real solution to those problems will never be found. It can’t be. We need to address the real issues — austerity, neglect, poor representation etc — that caused the problems, not keep using entirely false narratives about migration and FoM.

Well-off people will always be able to move freely. Always find opportunities. It is people like my younger self, those from a working-class background keen to build their future, who will lose out and be left behind if McCluskey has his way. /end
