With tremendous thanks to @TomJunod, whom I did not know before he knew Tom Hanks, but whom I know now, and is among the most generous and wonderful and supportive people around.
Story's been up a few hours, and I just woke up (I'm traveling, don't judge me). But I've already received a ton of supplementary Tom Hanks Is Wonderful stories, in addition to the ones I have that didn't fit in. I have a busy day, but I'll try to get them in there.
Tom Hanks once did an interview at the Los Angeles NPR affiliate @kcrw, and when he walked in, he saw the carpet was in shambles. He right there wrote a check for new carpeting.
Tom once walked up to an In-N-Out drive-thru and paid for the meal of the next person, asking the cashier to convey that so that he or she could pay for the next person in line.

Here is a phrase from the second page from his short-story collection, “Uncommon Type:” “…—that good citizens have a place somewhere in her fruited plain just as more stars can fit in the blue filed above those red and white stripes.”
This got cut from my story, because physics is a cruel mistress.
