A wonderful stat that I think goes a long way to explaining the Brexit divide:

Mexican migrants into the US become unhappier the longer they they remain in the US. Most Mexican migrants end up unhappier after a decade than they were when they entered.
They enter the US for economic reasons. And most become better off financially from their time in the US. But they lose social connectivity from being in the US. And it’s social connectivity that makes us happy, not economics.
Japan is another example. It was a happier nation pre it’s economic and technical explosion. It is now infinitely richer but no happier.
