. @Team_Luftwaffe waiting on gov decision to launch a programme to field a dedicated airborne electronic attack (EA) capability for @NATO by the mid-2020s. Ambitious timeline could be theatened by need to resubmit Tornado replacement RFI to now include EA.
Commitment to deliver A2AD capability to NATO given a typically catchy German project name of Luftgestützte Wirkung im Elektromagnetischen Spektrum ( #luWES). Luftwaffe expects government sign-off very shortly.
luWES to be delivered by stand-off jammer aircraft (large host aircraft, such as A400M or another type), an escort jammer (Growler or Eurofighter ECR); and a stand-in jammer (unmanned effectors).
luWES one of "4 pillars" of @Team_Luftwaffe current and future airborne electronic attack doctrine. Other 3 are the current Tornado ECR with HARM and AARGM to come; Project Quadriga Eurofighters to replace early T1 aircraft; and NGWS component of FCAS.
On Project #Quadriga plan to replace early Eurofighters with enhanced Tranche 3s, Brig Gen Leitges says; "I only want two things from these aircraft - that they have an AESA and that they be ready by 2024. Is it realistic? I don't know. But that is all we want." Story to come...
