Women have been treated barbarically by medicine over the centuries. Whether it was being committed to asylums b/c their husband had enough of them, or b/c they showed some kind of forbidden character trait, or they were subjected to cruel treatments for their illnesses.
The unbroken seam of horror running through the way women have been treated has almost universally revolved around the central ideas that women were lesser, and that they weren’t to be believed. We were hysterical, over emotional, exaggerating. We were faulty men.
Give us cold bath treatments to shock some sense into us,or try to force feed us. Do that to the women, too,who want the vote, because what kind of madness must that be?It doesn’t matter how cruel you are, if you think you’re right about female neuroses.
Even in recent history I know women threatened with social services when their daughters were sick,b/c doctors didn’t understand the children’s illnesses,&a woman who had her door broken down&was carried off to a psych ward b/c she was considered a poor witness to her own life
The result was that her physical illness was not treated. The result was that she died.

Over and over we see the words of women given less weight. Whether those words involve “no” or involve us trying to tell the truth about what it is we are experiencing.
In the gender debate, medicine is again complicit in that ignoring of us, but this whole thing demonstrates that it merely echoes society,&how easy the world at large finds it to dismiss, belittle and ignore the concerns, the requests and the thoughtful arguments of women.
The treatment of young females with dysphoria that is going on right now is a scandal. It is an abdication of care made possible by the general lack of care towards women and girls that already existed to begin with.

I think something else is notable, as well:
If early trans patients had exclusively been female,we wouldnt be talking about this right now. They’d have been dismissed&they would have suffered like females have suffered since the 1st time a Dr brought his sexism&the social comprehensions of his time into the examination room
It is, also, precisely because so many of the doctors were men, and men in a world that disregards female people, that they thought that they could build a woman. That they could perhaps even build one better than nature, &without any regard for the consequences that might arise.
Of course people should be allowed to transition,&be supported with that, but the seed of sexism in the 1st claim that a medical treatment to help a patient can replicate the reality of half the human race,&alter who belongs with them, has blossomed into a whole tree of falsehoods
It could only have ever existed in a world that believed women do not exist, cannot exist, for their own sake, &in their own right, without referencing the desires of men&subjugating us to them. Men do not conceive of us as people, in the same way they conceive that of themselves
The idea women might be so distinct a group of humans that they cannot be identified into or out of, as though they are merely an abstract idea, is not seriously considered b/c Male perspectives have always superseded ours.

But Transwomen cannot be women, b/c they are trans
Experiencing the glory, the beauty, the strength, the struggle and the joy in that is their noble task.

A task many of us would happily support them in, including by advocating for the specific resources and protections that they might need as trans people.
We cannot help them experience the glory, the beauty, the strength, the struggle and the joy of being women, though, b/c that is not something male&female people can ever possibly have in common.
