Often, our first interaction with a library service & its collections is via Web-based discovery services. This interaction relies on the hidden work of technical services librarians; cataloguers, metadata & data creators, enrichers & "tidiers," & systems specialists /1 https://twitter.com/Karenmca/status/1194545886111633408
Library users often don't appreciate the work that goes on behind the scenes to make discovery layers function. But they do notice when the discovery layer doesn't function! If they can't find what they're looking for, their whole relationship with the library changes /2
Finding, identifying, selecting, obtaining, & exploring library resources & collections successfully (ie without frustration) relies on quality, detailed metadata & functional library systems that can adequately interrogate this metadata /3
