I'll say it again - chiropractors have been the most successful quacks at fooling the public they are based on science. I criticise them frequently & YT comments (usually 🇺🇸) ask

"OK I get you don't agree with [alt med], but what's wrong with chiro?"

Their deceit is astonishing https://twitter.com/tomfolanmd/status/1194333092317544448
Many chiropractors incorporate physical therapy into their manipulations. So they may offer relief from back pain (I would still prefer to see a physio).

The spine 'cracks' are like your knuckles - release of pressure, giving some palpable relief in the joint. This is TEMPORARY.
That's it. That's all they can offer. If that's all they did offer, and they stayed away from cervical spines, then there'd be no problem.

But as that tragic link above shows, they can cause catastrophic trauma to the vital structures in the head and neck.
Somehow, who the hell knows how, they have convinced rational people that fiddling with the spine can cure all ills. One of the biggest medical influencers is this man, Eric Berg. People simply do not realise he is an utter charlatan. He is confident speaking on any topic at all.
You've probably heard of how popular pimple-popping channels are on YouTube. People are weird and like watching weird stuff. Back cracking vids are wildly popular. There are celebrity DCs, to whom sporting stars flock (and of course post the vids on insta).
Impressively, Joe Rogan has been a vocal critic of these quacks, but his devoted fanbase - who believe many crazy conspiracy theories - disagree with him on this one. For a good summary of the wacky origins & current state, check out @powerm1985's vid
Chiropractors' deception is so complete many US doctors are afraid to criticise them lest they be seen as hating on valid alternatives. I've seen MDs even sharing vids & recommending them, proving it's quite possible to become a doctor without the capacity for critical thinking.
TL;DR - chiropractors are the most dangerous of all pseudoscientific 'therapies' as unlike other ineffective belief systems, they have convinced almost everyone, including some doctors, that their technique is based on science.
Wonderful, funny & shocking write up on chiropractic from @TheSciBabe. You'll laugh, you'll cry, but hopefully you won't dissect your vertebral artery. https://twitter.com/TheSciBabe/status/1194543091178323968
