When you're raised in purity culture the idea of pleasure, specifically sexual pleasure, being good and good for you is mind blowing. The first time I read the phrase "Pleasure is good", I was so scandalized I had to put the book down.
I was literally taught "Sex is for making babies and making your husband happy." Pleasure was either secondary or considered sinful. For years I absorbed the message that as a woman, my pleasure and my feelings about sex are unimportant.
The Venn diagram of purity culture and anti-choice culture is basically a circle. Both are built on misogyny and only view sex as a procreative act.
I've been denied so much pleasure (and other good things) because of that rhetoric and it tbh it makes me really fucking mad.
