If you're one of those people who still think Rudy Gobert is not an offensive weapon, sit down with me for a Tuesday night clip session.

We've seen a ton of examples in recent games of Rudy's O game expanding beyond catching lobs. #thread coming....
First, you probably think I'm referring to this one. And I am, partly. Because wow. To see a 7-2 guy pirouette like that, plus the recognition & doing it all while making a TOUCH catch. And no, Kenny, that's not a walk. Catches with his left foot down, pivots & takes 1 more step.
But that's far from the only example. Just a bit later, he catches the ball beyond the FT line, makes a 2-dribble move, spins off a defender, fakes and then goes up & under. This is development.
This one is actually closer to a travel than the other. He kind of gets a generous interpretation of the "gather" rule. They evidently consider his L foot his pivot here, but I think he gathered a half second earlier. Still, that footwork on a solid defender.

But there's more...
Another one where they get him the ball beyond the FT line. They never used to do that. But he takes one dribble and then fully extends, with a soft kiss off the glass to finish. Those are not words we used to describe Gobert P&Rs when he came into the league.
It's not just tonight, either. No dribble on this one, but watch them trust him to make a catch in a crowd -- EIGHT Warrior feet are touching yellow paint when he catches -- and then finesse the layup despite contact. Again, this is not #justadunker anymore.
On this one he catches **before he gets to the top of the circle**. He gets low on the dribble (remember, he's 7'2") so he can slice through two defenders on a one-dribble move that covers 20 feet. Granted, not great defenders. But a dribble move to the basket from the circle?!?
A little simpler play here, except that it used to be that if you threw Rudy a pass this low, even money said you didn't get points. Now, he's able to corral that, then turn and employ a combination of strength and finesse to finish off the glass despite contact
Finally, here's the same side P&R play 2X. One time he gets the switch, the other time he doesn't. Both times he's able to finish over the defender by initiating the contact and then finishing with a soft touch. Watch him power through WCS's chest and then shimmy down the guard.
Rudy told his team he could help the offense if he had the ball more. In the last two games he has shot 19-for-22, or 86% (!!!) from the field. The fact that he's NOT just doing that by letting others set the table for him and then simply dunking on people's heads is remarkable.
If this is something he can keep up, this is a whole other animal. What Rudy does as the league's most prolific and efficient play-finisher is already ridiculously impactful and impressive. But he has quietly started to announce he can do more with these moves & finesse finishes.
